How we build it
A pool surround has requirements a patio does not: it has to stay cool underfoot, drain away from the water, and hold a non-slip surface when wet. Travertine does all three, which is why most of ours are travertine — tumbled, set tight, coped at the edge.
Beyond the water, outdoor living is where the hardscape meets structure: covered patios, pergolas, stone-clad columns, built-in benches, lighting run under the surface before it goes down. The point is a space you use like a room.
